Vishing or Voice Phishing invaiding VOIP

Posted by gariell on October 31, 2007

Fraudsters have developed yet another approach in voice phishing. This one uses voice over internet protocol(VOIP). Typically an incoming recorded telephone message displaying a spoofed caller ID matching whichever financial institution chosen. The message will prompt the recipient to call another spoofed telephone number answered by a recording asking for your card number and PIN.

The good general description of this type of activity can be found at the Rcmp fraud site
